Cancer is a disease that can often be controlled indefinitely.
The only question is, can we find a way to control most cancers indefinitely?
The most recent research seems to say, YES.
Cancer is a disease of cell reproduction and since there are many different cell types and many phases of cell division, it is possible for this mechanism to fail in many different ways.
This means that cancer is not one unique disease but is several hundred subtypes of the same disease. A few cancers, such as leukemia, can already be controlled indefinitely.
It is the contention of this author, arrived at by examining the latest research, that a combination of therapies combined with adequate monitoring of each therapy, will control most cancers in the future.
For the moment, one stumbling block in the search for effective control therapies, is the inability of doctors to monitor therapies accurately, at the molecular level, and in a timely manner.
